Woman killed‚ another airlifted to hospital after vehicle overturns near Carletonville

A woman was killed and three other women seriously injured when their vehicle overturned on the N12 near the Fochville intersection outside of Carletonville on Monday morning‚ ER24 said.

One of the injured had to be airlifted to hospital.

“Shortly after 7am paramedics from ER24 and provincial emergency services arrived on the scene where they found a SUV lying on its side. All four women were ejected from the vehicle when it overturned.

“One of the women‚ believed to be an off-duty traffic officer‚ was found with fatal injuries on the scene. Sadly‚ there was nothing that paramedics could do for her and she was declared dead on the scene‚” said ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak.

 “Another woman was found with critical injuries. An emergency helicopter was called to the scene and she was later airlifted to a hospital in Johannesburg. The other two women sustained serious injuries. They were treated on the scene and rushed per ambulance to a nearby hospital‚” Vermaak said.

Pedestrian knocked over and killed by car on N14

A man‚ believed to be in his 20s‚ was knocked over and killed by a light motor vehicle on the N14 near the Petroport at Diepsloot‚ north of Johannesburg‚ on Sunday evening.

The man had apparently failed to notice the oncoming vehicle as he attempted to run across the road.

“Two vehicles from ER24 were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival‚ paramedics found a light motor vehicle parked in the emergency lane of the highway while the body of a man was found some distance off to the side of the road.

“Paramedics immediately assessed the man and found the he had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately‚ nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene‚” said ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak.

The driver of the vehicle was assessed and found to have escaped injury‚ he added.
