A quick response by police in Somerset West in the Western Cape has led to the arrest of three armed robbers who attempted to hold up a fast food outlet at a mall in the town on Sunday morning.

Western Cape police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Andrè Traut said that police had been alerted at 6.15am about a robbery in progress at the mall and had reacted swiftly.

“Upon their arrival on the scene‚ four suspects made an attempt to flee. Police managed to apprehend three of the four aged 32‚ 41 and 41‚ and confiscate two prohibited firearms. The fourth suspect evaded arrest and is being sought‚” Traut said.

The suspects who are from Makhaza Khayelitsha are due to appear court once they have been charged‚ he added.
