TUT goes ahead with exams on Monday after bus torched in Soshanguve

The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is continuing with end-of-year examinations despite a bus being torched on Sunday and amidst threats of more buses being burned.

Although the TUT Pretoria West campus was quiet on Monday morning‚ the Soshanguve campus had a strong police and private security presence after some rocks were thrown early in the morning.

Police were maintaining a strong presence with police nyalas patrolling the streets outside the campus.

Tshwane metro police officers escorted buses to the Pretoria CBD where students from the Soshanguve campuses were due to write their exams.

Despite the attempts from students to prevent the exams from going ahead‚ the university maintained a tough stance‚ vowing that students who didn’t write the exams would lose the academic year.

A statement from TUT said: “Measures have been put in place to identify those individuals who attempt to intimidate and ruin the futures of the majority of our students who wish to write their exams this year.” — TMG Digital
