Matric learners ‘psychologically’ affected by #FeesMustFall campaign: minister

The ongoing FeesMustFall protests are psychologically affecting matric learners‚ Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said on Wednesday.

Speaking to eNCA‚ Motshekga said learners have expressed their concerns over getting space and finding universities in order next year when they have to study.

“We have been taking road shows to provinces encouraging teachers to please reassure them about their future‚” Motshekga said.

The National Senior Certificate examinations (NSC) started this week without any reported hiccups.

Gauteng Grade 12 learners started their exams on Wednesday‚ starting with the English paper. Other official languages followed during the day.

Meanwhile‚ university students are determined to continue their fight for free education.

They were unfazed by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s announcement on Wednesday that universities and students will receive an additional R17 billion over the next three years. They are determined to stand by their call for free‚ quality education.
