UWC suspends all classes for 2016

The University of Western Cape has suspended all face-to-face classes for the 2016 academic year.

The university senate executive committee met on Wednesday to consider the way forward that would allow the institution to complete the academic year.

It agreed on the following:
- all face-to-face classes are suspended;
- the exact of mode of completion of the academic programme‚ where needed‚ will be faculty and discipline specific and managed by deans and head of departments;
- students are given a choice of writing their main examinations either in November 2016 or in January 2017;
- the first session of examinations is scheduled to begin on November 7 2016 and a time table will be circulated;
- the second session is likely to begin on January 10 2017;
- students who qualify for supplementary examinations will be given the opportunity to write those in January 2017;
- option for postgraduate student assessment and completion are being considered by the senate higher degrees committees and will be communicated via their faculties.
