Inquest to be held into death of Pretoria shooter

The police have opened an inquest docket into the death of a man who shot and killed three people at a residential complex in Moreleta Park‚ Pretoria.

The 53-year-old resident held two police officers and three security guards hostage at The Meadows last Wednesday. The hostages were freed after a seven-hour standoff.

“A docket of three counts of murder is opened against the suspect and an inquest docket will be investigated with regards to the death of the suspect‚” said Captain David Miller.

Four people‚ including the gunman‚ died during the standoff.

Miller said police would only release the names of the deceased once all of their next-of-kin had been informed.

He said all the dead were males aged between 48 and 55. Two were residents and the third was caretaker Edward Gobey‚ a husband and father of two.

Miller said that police were still investigating whether or not the killer had any previous criminal records and whether he was a former policeman. — TMG Digital
