One killed‚ five injured in collision near Westonaria

One person was killed and five other people were injured when two vehicles collided on the N12 near the R28 intersection in Westonaria west of Johannesburg on Saturday night‚ paramedics said.

“At approximately 10pm last night‚ paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where they found the two vehicles with severe damage. It is understood that the two vehicles collided head on with each other‚” said ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.

“Two people were found in one of the vehicles with moderate injuries. A third person with fatal injuries was also found in the vehicle. Two people from the second vehicle sustained moderate injuries.

 “The injured were treated on the scene and later transported to Carletonville Hospital for further care.

“The exact cause of the collision is not yet known. Local authorities attended the scene and will conduct an investigation‚” Vermaak said.

He added that in another collision at about 5am on Sunday morning‚ paramedics had treated six people that were involved in a collision on the R501 near Agnew Road in Carletonville‚ which is in the same region.

 “It is understood that one of the vehicles rear-ended the other.

“Both vehicles were found in the middle island of the road. The injured were treated for moderate injuries and transported to Carletonville and The Fountains Hospitals respectively‚” Vermaak said.
