Sting operation nets woman selling fake social grant cards

A 29-year-old woman was arrested by the Rapid Rail Police Unit (RRPU) KwaZulu-Natal on Monday afternoon‚ for allegedly selling South African Social Security Agency cards.

The SASSA cards are not valid‚ so buyers would have wasted their money.

Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said a woman who learned about the scam and then pretended to be a customer had alerted police. “She made an appointment to meet with an alleged suspect at Umgeni Road and then called the police who took the suspect for questioning.”

The woman‚ who had two cards in her possession‚ told police that she got the cards from a woman at Empangeni who has boxes full of these SASSA cards and each card costs R1000.

The police investigation continues.
