World-renowned fashion designer Marc Jacobs has come under fire for using white models with faux dreadlocks in his New York Fashion Week (NYFW) show

For spring/summer 2017‚ each model on the Marc Jacobs show sported custom cut‚ boiled and dyed dreadlocks‚ which were weaved into their hair‚ then knotted together on top of their heads. From blues and violets to green and orange‚ there was every shade imaginable on a stellar model line-up‚ including Gigi Hadid‚ Kendall Jenner‚ Jourdan Dunn and Taylor Hill.

However‚ the internet wasn’t impressed at all. A slew of social media users blasted the brand for the move‚ accusing it of cultural appropriation in addition to criticizing the designer for including only two people of colour.

Subsequently‚ the brand has been topping the trends list on Twitter.

Marc took to Instagram to respond to those angry about him using the cultural reference as a trend: “All who cry ‘cultural appropriation’ or whatever nonsense about any race or skin colour wearing their hair in any particular style or manner — funny how you don’t criticise women of colour for straightening their hair.”
