The Economic Freedom Fighters said the party members in KwaZulu-Natal who called for the suspension of the party’s deputy president Floyd Shivambu have effectively expelled themselves.
At a media briefing in Durban on Saturday‚ members of the EFF in Kwazulu-Natal claimed that the party’s national leaders were ‘broken’ and demanded that some of them‚ including Shivambu‚ be suspended.
The KwaZulu-Natal members also demanded that Shivambu explain what happened to money allocated for campaigning purposes in the province for the recent local government elections‚ claiming that he misused the money.
“These members‚ by acting outside of the culture‚ structures‚ codes and processes they signed up for when they joined the EFF‚ have effectively expelled themselves. We will not tolerate ill-discipline‚” EFF acting spokesman Fana Mokoena said on Sunday.
Mokoena also dismissed the call by these members to call for a policy conference to support the motion to suspend Shivambu.
“It is not necessary to mention from the outset that this bogus press conference was outside the mandate of the organisation and is therefore not recognised by the EFF‚” Mokoena said.
The EFF said the media briefing held in eThekwini by certain former leaders of the organisation in KZN‚ who were less than 20 in number‚ misled its members into thinking they were attending a bonafide EFF policy event.
“The EFF will not respond to ill-disciplined members who do not understand the principles of the organisation they signed up for.”
Mokoena said the party had founding documents‚ including the constitution and the members’ code of conduct‚ which outlined in detail the character of the organisation and its members.
“It must be stated categorically that the EFF is not a home of position mongers and we will not tolerate and support such a culture.”
Mokoena said the party’s central command structure made carefully considered decisions in the interests of the organisation and members were constitutionally obliged to comply with those decisions.
“If they are unhappy with processes‚ we have structures and processes within the organisation that are specifically meant for such disgruntlements.”
The EFF also accused the African National Congress of bankrolling the KwaZulu-Natal group.
“Once more the ANC is bankrolling what they perceive to be a way of destroying their real opposition. The ANC must be ashamed‚” Mokoena said.
