The #OutsourcingMustFall movement has resolved to “to resume protest action” on campuses across Gauteng.

This‚ it said in a statement ahead of a media briefing on Wednesday‚ was “to ensure that the victories won against outsourcing‚ which will see important improvements in living standards for low-paid but essential workers‚ are secured”.

#OutsourcingMustFall workers – which include “security guards‚ cleaners‚ landscaping and catering staff” — have also “pledged their support to student struggle against fee increases and are prepared to coordinate protest action with students”.

The South African Students’ Congress and the South African Union of Students recently threatened to shut down campuses if a fee increase is implemented for the 2017 academic year.

“Workers are frustrated that managements continue to break the letter and the spirit of the agreements that were signed with workers to end strike action earlier this year‚” #OutsourcingMustFall’s Austin Mofya said.

This includes the failure to:

- “Allow workers to represent themselves on task teams handling the insourcing process;

- “Abide by agreements to ensure no job losses; and

- “Failure to abide by‚ or keep workers informed about‚ the timetable for wage increases.”

Mofya added that “workers in Tshwane organised under #OutsourcingMustFall have built unity with their colleagues in Wits University and University of Johannesburg”.
