A man in his thirties was critically injured when he was shot in the parking lot of a major tile retailer in Garth Road in Durban around noon on Wednesday. The incident was captured on camera and posted on Facebook shortly afterwards.

Paramedics arrived on the scene at Malls Tiles off Brickfield Road to find the man in a critical condition.

“Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man on scene who had sustained gunshot wounds to his upper body. Once the man had been stabilised on the scene he was transported to a nearby hospital‚” said Rescue Care operations manager Garrith Jamieson.

Jamieson said the exact circumstances of the shooting were unclear. “However South African Police Service will be investigating.”

Video footage of the shooting was posted on Facebook by Rivaaj Ramdas.

The footage shows three people‚ armed with a rifle or automatic weapon and handguns‚ run up to a vehicle after it parks and pull open the doors in full view of passing cars and pedestrians. — TMG Digital/The Times
