Sex video girl tries to take own life

Ashamed of being her community's laughing stock, the girl who was seen in a video having sex with her teacher, is in hospital after she tried to commit suicide at the weekend.

The pregnant Grade 11 pupil who is dating her suspended life orientation 45-year-old teacher at Ekucabangeni Secondary School in Nquthu , KwaZulu-Natal, was admitted to hospital on Saturday night.

She told Sowetan yesterday that she decided to kill herself after the sex video of her and the t eacher went viral and turned her into a laughing stock of the community.

"On Saturday night, I overdosed on sleeping tablets in my room, trying to kill myself. During the night I vomited nonstop and the noise while vomiting woke my parents up," she said.

She said her parents phoned the ambulance and she was taken to the Charles Johnson Memorial Hospital where she was admitted and is being treated.

‘Unacceptable’ for teacher to have sex with pupils

"Since the sex video came out, residents in our area have been calling me names such as isifebe esincane [little bitch], who has no shame sleeping with such an old man. I tried not to put that in my mind but I failed.

"I have been getting pressure from my parents who keep saying I am a disgrace to the family," she added.

"The video humiliated me and my family in the community, but I don't regret falling in love with the teacher. And we are still in love."

The school governing body chairman Sithembiso Sibisi, confirmed that the pupil did not attend school yesterday because she was still in hospital.

"I don't want to lie to you, all those girls have been the laughing stock of the community since the incidents were uncovered. Residents are shocked by the video because they had never seen such [a thing] in the community before," Sibisi said.

Provincial education department spokesman Muzi Mahlambi said they were aware that the pupil was being treated in hospital.

"As the department, we have sent social workers to the school to provide counseling to the victims and other pupils."

So far, four pupils who came forward and confessed that they were also victims of the suspended teacher have been put in a safe place following alleged death threats from the teacher.

The teacher is still at large after the victim's family and the provincial education MEC Mthandeni Dlungwana opened cases of sexual assault and statutory rape, respectively, against him.

The suspended teacher is accused of abusing as many as six female pupils believed to be aged between 14 and 17, and recorded the abuse.

Three other male teachers at the school are facing investigation as it was alleged that they were also having sex with pupils.
