In the seventh over of New Zealand’s reply‚ Tom Latham drove down the wrong line to a delivery from Steyn and was caught by Dean Elgar for four.

Steyn missed six of SA’s eight tests last season through groin and shoulder injuries‚ and it was feared that at 33 his stellar career was near its end.

SA’s other ailing fast bowler‚ Vernon Philander — whose ankle injury also ruled him out of six tests last summer — might have dismissed Latham three overs before Steyn struck.
