Lehlohonolo Majoro joins Cape Town City from Orlando Pirates in two-year deal

Cape Town City have completed the signing of Orlando Pirates striker Lehlohonolo Majoro‚ the club confirmed on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old becomes the latest signing for the ambitious new Premier Soccer League franchise as he ends a torrid three years with The Buccaneers.

Majoro has signed a two-year deal and is reunited with coach Eric Tinkler‚ who gave him limited opportunities when they were together at Pirates.

But the Bafana Bafana international is likely to lead the line for City‚ who are limited with attacking options.

Majoro joined Pirates in February 2014 after negotiating his exit from Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs‚ but scored only 12 goals with the club‚ and only one last season.

In fact‚ 11 of those goals came in a purple patch between August 2014 and the following February‚ after which they dried up.

Majoro burst onto the PSL scene in the 2010/11 season when he netted 16 goals for AmaZulu having been a virtual unknown before then.

He was snapped up by Chiefs in the following season and scored 15 goals‚ including four in one game against Black Leopards in the Nedbank Cup.

He won the league title and Nedbank Cup with AmaKhosi the following year‚ again contributing with goals‚ but fell out of favour in the next season.

He had been set to join SuperSport United but instead negotiated his own deal to join Pirates‚ which resulted in a lawsuit by his aggrieved agent Tim Sukazi.

Majoro has won 11 caps with Bafana Bafana‚ the last in March 2015‚ and has scored two goals.

City are building towards their first season in the PSL after owner John Comitis bought the top-flight status of Mpumalanga Black Aces and relocated the club to Cape Town‚ along with 14 AmaZayoni players from the squad that finished fourth last season.

They will play their first ever match against Polokwane City on August 23‚ and three days later host Kaizer Chiefs in the quarterfinals of the MTN8.
