The African National Congress has distanced itself from a new struggle song‚ "Azania"‚ which warns the leaders of opposition parties not to stand in the ANC’s way.

ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said on Friday evening that “Azania” was created by a fan and was not the party’s song.

The lyrics are: "Give me my machine gun. When I have my machine gun‚ nobody can stop me … forget about Maimane and Malema.”

It continues: "Azania is our nation that we took with the spear of the nation … We gotta vote‚ stay afloat‚ make a difference. ANC till the end of my existence‚ together we can do more‚ this is what we live for‚ forget about old laws‚ open up closed doors.”

Released just two days ago‚ the song had been trending on Twitter with twitteratis labelling the track as #ANCBeefTrack‚ in reference to the video of Economic Freedom Fighters spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi singing at the party’s first national assembly‚ which resurfaced on Facebook.

Reactions to the song were mixed
