A wife of one of the twins arrested for their alleged involvement in a suspected terror plot has described the night of their arrest.

The case against brothers Brandon-Lee Thulsie and Tony-Lee Thulsie was on Thursday postponed to give the State time to prepare its response to an application brought by them‚ claiming that their arrests and subsequent detentions are unlawful.

They claim they were not furnished with arrest warrants when they were taken into custody.

The 23-year-olds have now appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court three times this week. They are yet to formally bring their bail applications.

Bail proceedings have been put on hold in order to establish whether their arrests were in fact unlawful.

The prosecution must now prove that proper procedures were followed when the identical twins were taken into custody on July 9.

If it fails to do so‚ the Thulsie brothers may be released.

The twins‚ who previously worked in promotions and as actors in commercials‚ were arrested in Newclare‚ west of Johannesburg.

In a sworn affidavit the wife of Tony-Lee‚ Aadila Alben‚ gives details of the evening of the arrests. She said that on that night‚ police documents were signed by her brother-in-law and mother-in-law‚ who lived together‚ under a “climate of fear and intimidation“.

Brother and sister Ibrahim and Fatima Patel‚ charged with illegal possession of explosives and ammunition relating to the same alleged terror plot‚ have been released on bail of R5‚000. The Patel siblings were arrested in Azaadville on Johannesburg’s west rand.

The Thulsie twins will return to court on Friday.
