20 rushed to hospital after Joburg gas leak

About 20 people were taken to hospital after suspected gas leak at a business in Elandsfontein east of Johannesburg on Thursday.

Private ambulance services EMER-G-MED and Netcare911 were dispatched to the business just after 10am and found at least 20 workers with varying degrees of illness and injury.

“It’s believed that there was a gas leak in the building‚ which was inhaled by the workers‚” EMER-G-MED said in a statement.

“Paramedics worked on the scene to triage and stabilise the patients‚ before they were rapidly transported to various nearby hospitals for further management — some of them under advanced life support care.”

Local authorities were investigating the source of the gas leak.
