Family hit by ambulance given home

It was an emotional day when a Mpumalanga family was given a house by the provincial government.

The Masemola family from KwaMhlanga were presented yesterday with a brandnew house by health MEC Gillion Mashego and the ANC regional leadership.

This came after three members of the family were hit by an ambulance in 2014.

The head of the family, Elizabeth Masemola, died after the accident.

Her daughter Alfinah Masemola sustained serious injuries which left her partially disabled. Alfinah's daughter also survived.

Alfinah said the gift reminded her of the last time she spoke to her mother.

"We were going to church when we were hit by the ambulance. My mother died after a few days and I had to attend her funeral in a wheelchair.

"My daughter is fine, but for me it's a bit harder. I can't walk a long distance and my right hand cannot carry something heavy as my bones were fractured," she said.

However, she thanked the department of health for the house and furniture.

During the event ANC chairman of Nkangala region Speedy Mashilo asked Mashego to also find a job for Alfinah so that she can feed her siblings.

In response, Mashego said they would look into it.

"As the department we are going to bring some things for the house and also look on how Alfinah can sustain her siblings," Mashego said.

The house was built by donations from local businessmen in the area after the department and the ANC asked for their help.
