State attorneys bust by Hawks for soliciting bribes

Two state attorneys and a financial clerk from the Department of Justice were arrested on Thursday morning by the Hawks’ Anti-Corruption Unit for soliciting bribes of more than R50‚000 from interpreters for a period of three years.

The suspects aged 31‚ 40‚ and 49 allegedly allocated work to interpreters for an exchange of payment‚ Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said in a statement.

“The trio allegedly facilitated the services of interpreters by referring unsuspecting clients to them for a fee. The clerk would facilitate the payments to the interpreters’ account that in turn they would be ordered to redirect the payments to their account‚” the captain explained.

The suspects‚ a female and two males‚ will appear before the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court later on Thursday for corruption and extortion.

Capt Mulamu said anyone who fell victim to the trio’s “shenanigans” could contact Captain Warmberg on 072 580 2469.
