Taxi transporting pupils from matric dance overturns‚ killing one

A taxi believed to have been transporting pupils from their matric dance in the early hours Sunday overturned on the M3 at Paradise Road in Claremont in Cape Town‚ killing one of the pupils and injuring 11 other people‚ paramedics said.

ER24 said the injuries ranged from moderate to critical.

“ER24‚ Life Healthcare‚ Metro‚ Fire and Rescue as well as other services attended to the incident. Upon arrival they found the taxi on its roof. Patients were scattered across the scene. Sadly upon assessment of one of them found on the road‚ it was found that he sustained fatal injuries.

“One of the patients attended to by ER24 paramedics was a man believed to be in his 30s/40s who was in a critical condition. He was treated and transported to Groote Schuur Hospital. Four other patients were also transported to Victoria Hospital. The rest of the patients were transported to hospital by other services‚” ER24 said.

“The exact cause of the incident is unknown. Authorities were on scene for further investigations.”
