A man was dragged about 50m and left critically injured after being hit by a train at Vereeniging train station in Gauteng on Friday.

Emergency service ER24 said that paramedics‚ along with other rescue services‚ arrived at the station and found the man lying some distance away from the platform.

“On assessment‚ paramedics found that the man had sustained numerous critical injuries. It is believed he had been walking on the tracks when he was hit and dragged by the train for 50m‚” said ER24.

Paramedics immediately began treating the man and provided him with advanced life support intervention.

“Once treated‚ the patient was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment‚” said ER24.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
