Laughing rapist calls prison his home

A Kwazulu-Natal serial rapist laughed at the judge in the Durban High Court.

Nkosinathi Mthembu, 36, convicted of multiple rape, robbery, sexual assault and house breaking charges and sentenced to five life terms and 103 years imprisonment was facing 32 charges but was found guilty on 29 counts. Three charges were withdrawn due to lack of evidence on Friday.

Mthembu raped elderly people and minors in the Tongaat area between 2014 and 2015.

He committed all these crimes after being released on parole in January 2014.

Mthembu was convicted of house breaking and armed robbery in 2002 and sentenced to 15 years.

When asked why he was laughing during sentencing , Mthembu replied that the sentence made him laugh and that he did not care because he was going home to prison.

Handing down sentencing, Judge Gregory Kruger said: "He was right when he said prison is his home. This time around we will make sure he never gets any parole, he will rot in jail," Kruger said.
