13 Limpopo schools razed in violent demarcation protests

Three more schools were torched around Limpopo’s Vhembe District on Tuesday night as residents continued protesting against the Municipal Demarcation Board’s decision to incorporate their area into a new municipality.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the total number of burned-down schools in Vuwani and Levubu now totalled 13.

Ledwaba said no arrests had been made and roads remained blocked in the area.

Residents from Vuwani and other surrounding areas reignited violent protests in the area on Sunday after losing a high court case to reverse a decision by the demarcation board to include them under the new Malamulele municipality.

Going into the Vuwani remained a hassle as residents continued to block roads with stones and tree branches.
