Police bust notorious ‘Msenti’ gang

Kwazulu-Natal police have bust a notorious group of criminals known as the “Msenti” gang.

Four members of the gang‚ wanted for a number of house robberies and business robberies in the Inanda area‚ were arrested in KwaMashu near Durban on Thursday.

Two unlicensed firearms‚ a 303 rifle and a 9mm pistol were also recovered from the suspects‚ police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said.

He said the four men would appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms.

“Members of the Trio Task Team and Inanda Crime Prevention Unit embarked on an intelligence driven operation in KwaMashu and Ntuzuma aimed at tracing these thugs who terrorised the community of Inanda ad the surroundings.

“The suspects were arrested in the KwaMashu and Ntuzuma areas. One of the firearms that was recovered from the men was taken from a police officer who was attacked and robbed of his service pistol at Ntuzuma earlier this year‚” Maj Zwane said.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded police for rounding up the gang.

”I am elated that another criminal grouping is behind bars where they cannot terrorise innocent members of the community anymore. We hope that the community will play an active role by working with police to eradicate such thugs from society. We should not allow criminals to invade our neighbourhoods‚” she said.
