Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema has cancelled public appearances this week as he mourns the death of his aunt.

Nurse Malema‚ who was the party leader’s aunt and a member of the EFF‚ died late Monday afternoon (25 April‚ 2016) after a short sickness‚ the organisation said in a statement.

Paying tribute to her‚ EFF national spokesperson Mbuyiseni Quintin Ndlozi said: “The EFF was blessed in that the Malema’s not only gave us their son‚ the CIC Julius Malema‚ but also his aunt who was active right from the beginning of the formation of our movement.”

“In many instances‚ family members of political activists join the movement for moral support and because their relatives are in the leadership. Nurse Malema was an activist in her own right and joined the EFF because of its mission and the need to challenge the system. She will be dearly missed by all fighters‚ in particular the community of Seshego where she was active and based.”

Her funeral will be held on Monday 02 May 2016‚ in Seshego‚ Polokwane.

“As a result of the passing of Nurse Malema‚ the CIC Julius Malema will not attend the remaining community meetings the week. Despite this loss‚ the CIC Julius Malema will however address the EFF Manifesto Launch Rally on 30 April‚ 2016 in Orlando Stadium‚ Soweto‚” the party said.
