A 32-year-old man who raped his 16-year-old sister‚ making her pregnant‚ has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by the Pinetown Regional Court.
KwaZulu-Natal police said in a statement the case dated back to June 2012.
“The mother suspected that her daughter (victim) was pregnant and she asked her whether she is pregnant or not. Her daughter agreed that she was pregnant and she told her mother that the father of the child was her brother. She further told her mother that her brother threatened to kill her if she report the matter.”
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner‚ Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni‚ welcomed the sentence.
“I also commend the parents of the victim who stood up and reported such abuse in the family. The victim was raped by her brother and the family did not hide this and the matter was immediately reported to the police. This will serve as a warning to other family members who abuse children and think that they will get away with it‚” she said.
