Murder fugitive from Jo’burg arrested in small Free State town

A 31-year-old man wanted for the alleged murder of a man at a tavern in Eldorado Park‚ Johannesburg‚ has been arrested in the small Free State farming town of Jacobsdal.

Lebohang Moakamedi was identified by residents in Ratanang Township where he had been hiding a day after his face and particulars had been published in a national newspaper. They immediately informed police of his whereabouts.

 He was arrested on Friday.

A warrant for Moakamedi’s arrest was issued by a Magistrate in Johannesburg after he allegedly stabbed a man to death with a knife at a tavern in Eldorado Park‚ Johannesburg in 2015. The two men had allegedly been involved in a heated argument before Lebohang stabbed him.

“He disappeared from Eldorado Park a few days after the incident and was only traced to Jacobsdal by the vigilant‚ co-operative members of public who reported him to the police in the area. He was taken to Eldorado Park where he will be appearing before court on murder charges soon‚” said police spokesman Sergeant Thabo Litabe

“We are thankful for the co-operation of community members in Jacobsdal and would like to encourage others throughout the nation to take note of the exemplary deeds of Jacobsdal residents‚” said Free State provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thabethe Mpembe.
