Police used stun grenades to disperse EFF and ANC members who clashed on Adderley Street near Parliament on Thursday afternoon.
At least four stun grenades exploded. Pictures from the scene showed people believed to be ANC supporters attacking EFF members with planks broken off public benches.
Some EFF members tried to pull bricks from the paving.
It is reported that the EFF members were picketing without obtaining the permit to protest and the police were pushing them away from the Parliament precinct.
The police also formed a barricade between the Ses'Khona marchers and EFF members to prevent them from clashing further.
The Ses'Khona marchers were given permission to march.
