Johannesburg police are searching for the mother of a child, presumed to be about two years old, who was tied up in a plastic bag and left on the side of the road in Kensington.
A security guard noticed the occupants of a car leave the bag near Jeppe High School for Boys on Tuesday, Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said on Wednesday.
He noticed movement in the bag and went to take a look. He freed the girl and took her to the Jeppe police station.
She was taken to hospital and cases of child abandonment and attempted murder were opened. Police were searching for the parents.
The child was taken to a place of safety.
