Case against Zwelinzima Vavi postponed

The case against former Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi was on Tuesday postponed until March 9 for him to plead and his trial to start.

Vavi briefly appeared in the Edenvale's Magistrate Court on a charge of speeding. His lawyer Ziphokuhle Modisane told the court they had agreed to the prosecution's request to postpone the case.

Vavi wore a brown Nelson Mandela shirt and black pants, seemed calm, and greeted journalists. His last appearance on the charge was in November.

He was arrested on Sunday, October 4 for speeding on the R24 in Edenvale, in Ekurhuleni. He was allegedly driving at 207km/h in a 120km/h zone. He was released on R1 000 bail.
