Stylist Mariah McCloy is embroiled in a fashion war with Loin Cloth & Ashes fashion label owner Anisa Mpungwe over an alleged copied dress design.

The latter has accused McCloy of selling a counterfeit of her design at a cheaper price in her newly unveiled shop in Newtown.

"The design features exposed front darts, bow detail, and front slit as well as a semi-square circle neck line and detailed racer back with an invisible zip that is synonymous with Loin Cloth & Ashes," said Mpungwe who saw the replica at McCloy's store.

However, McCloy said she did not manufacture the dress but bought it in downtown Johannesburg. She said in her shop she sold bags, accessories and shoes that were manufactured by her.

"I don't manufacture dresses. I bought this dress because it looked nice. I would never steal someone's designs," she said. "I believe somebody has been copying and manufacturing the dresses. I have called her and apologised about this."
