A 12-year-old boy who had been beaten and burnt was found dead at an initiation school near Mahikeng at the weekend.
Police said the boy from Verdwaal village‚ was allegedly found dead by the school teacher‚ who called officers on Saturday‚ 28 November 2015‚ at about 14:00 to come to the premises at Rooigrond.
“When police asked what happened‚ he told them that the deceased was assaulted last week Sunday‚ 22 November 2015 by an unknown men from the same village. The body was found with sjambok wounds and burns.
“An inquest case is being investigated until post-mortem determines the cause of death. Investigations continue‚” the SAPS said in a statement.
Four years ago‚ Verdwaal village was the home of another tragedy when four children — aged 2‚ 6‚ 7 and 9‚ died of hunger and dehydration. The government has since helped the community with documentation so they can claim social aid grants.
