Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL) chairwoman Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva has opened a case against prophet Samuel Radebe of the Revelation Church of God.

Radebe has refused to appear before the commission. Section 41 of the commission's act states that if someone has received a summons but refuses to appear before it, that person is in violation of the act.

Mkhwanazi-Xaluva said it was frustrating to work with uncooperative pastors. "Only a few pastors refused to appear before the commission. If they continue, we'll come here and report them to the police and let the law take its course. It has been very frustrating because they never thought this day would come," she said.

She said she had observed that some pastors led a completely different lifestyle to what they preached to their congregants. "They don't do anything out of the ordinary. They are not heavenly and they flout rules.

"Majority of the pastors complied, it's only a minority, maybe about three pastors, who have not. It is those who bring bus loads of people to toyi-toyi and those who arrive with bodyguards," she said.

Hillbrow police station commander Vukile Ntandane said they will approach a prosecutor who will advise which case to register. Radebe could not be reached for comment.

Meanwhile, CRL spokesman Mpiyakhe Mkholo said police have not been able to locate " snake pastor" Penuel Mnguni . "The sheriff has not given him summonses. As soon as he comes back to say that he has not been able to locate him, we are then going to involve the police."
