The bid to get Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to replace her former husband President Jacob Zuma in 2017 has been galvanised by top maskandi group Izingane Zoma.

The group, which called for Zuma's third term way before others did, now vouches for Dlamini-Zuma in their latest offering. Izingane Zoma's 21st album, released two weeks ago, is titled Nkosazana Zuma.

The female group, made up of Tholakele Ngobese, Thandoluni Phungula and Xoli Buthelezi, calls on the African Union Commission chairwoman to lead the country in 2017.

In the song uNkosazana Zuma, Izingane Zoma suggest is time for 50/50 representation be put into practice. The song further implies that all people in South Africa - except the EFF - support the idea.

Ngobese said they were throwing the gauntlet at Dlamini-Zuma because people were ready to be led by her. She said the three former male presidents - Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki and current leader Zuma - have done well, but that it was time for a woman to take over .

"We are not calling for a female president because Zuma has failed. Since women have rights, they deserve equal chance.

"Zuma is doing well and we can see the development in various places including KwaZulu-Natal," said Ngobese.

The group reckons Zuma has changed the lives of many people through the development of infrastructure. For many years, the group has supported Zuma in public.
