Three men have been shot dead, and two others hospitalised, after a shoot-out in Mangaung, Free State police said on Sunday.

A group of friends were sitting at a mini-market in Rocklands on Saturday night when two men jumped from a minibus taxi and started shooting randomly at them, said police spokesperson Constable Peter Kareli.

Police rushed to the scene and found five badly wounded men lying on the ground. They had gunshot wounds to the head and upper body.

Kareli said three of them, aged between 30 and 35, died on the scene.

Two others were rushed to Pelonomi Hospital in a serious condition.

“One of the deceased was found with a 9mm pistol in his hand with 6 live rounds.”

The motive for the attack was not yet clear.

No arrests had been made.
