Preliminary report into bridge collapse

The Department of Labour will on Wednesday release its preliminary report into the collapse of the bridge over the M1N between Sandton and Wynberg.

Two people died and 20 were injured when the scaffold structure collapsed on October 14.

Several investigations are being conducted into the incident. The City of Johannesburg‚ the police‚ the Engineering Council of SA and the bridge’s builder‚ Murray& Roberts‚ have all launched investigations.

Murray & Roberts has appointed technical‚ engineering‚ legal and forensic specialists to investigate the incident.

The Labour Department’s probe will be the first one to be published.

The media have been invited to the briefing.
