Alleged rapist tells victim they made love

The woman accusing modelling agency boss Dawie de Villiers of rape says he told her they “made love” and asked her to send him a photograph of her genitalia in a BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) chat.

The 20-year-old showed the Johannesburg high court‚ sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court‚ southeast of Johannesburg‚ the messages she alleges De Villiers sent to her in 2013.

She began giving testimony on Tuesday claiming that De Villiers raped her in 2010 when she was a minor.

De Villiers‚ 36‚ faces more than 30 charges‚ including rape‚ sexual assault‚ intimidation and fraud. He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The woman‚ who cannot be named by order of the court‚ said that De Villiers‚ who was her modelling coach at the time‚ invited her to a group photo shoot but she was the only model to arrive.

After she changed into a bikini to be photographed she joined De Villiers in his photographic studio‚ where he raped her on a couch wearing a condom‚ she said.

When they met again‚ following the day of her rape‚ he gave her a morning-after contraceptive pill. She then asked him why he had raped her‚ and he told her not to ask questions‚ she said.

She said she did not communicate with De Villiers again until she received a BBM request in 2013 from a David Toddy‚ whom she later learnt was De Villiers.

She and De Villiers then exchanged a few messages‚ she said.

“He told me that he didn’t rape me‚ that we made love and he asked me if we can do it again…He asked me for pictures of my vagina.”

Before receiving the messages from De Villiers‚ the woman had told a man called Deon that she had been raped‚ she said.

She then forwarded the text messages De Villiers had sent her to Deon who was sympathetic and promised to help her‚ she said.

But the defence appeared to be sceptical of the woman’s involvement with Deon.

Defence advocate Jaques Pienaar said that he found it strange that she reported her rape to someone she barely knew.

He also said that Deon van Wyk‚ the only Deon whose statement appears in the police docket‚ made no mention of her reporting her rape to him.

Though Van Wyk does say that he had heard that she had a “bad experience” with De Villiers‚ he said.

The soft-spoken woman broke down in tears a number of times while giving testimony.

De Villiers‚ who ran his modelling agency from his home in Kempton Park‚ has been accused by other models he has worked with of stealing money from them under the pretence of giving them modelling lessons and photo shoots.
