Rape victim’s son arrested for setting fire to home of alleged rapist

The son of an alleged 68-year-old rape victim appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday on arson charges for allegedly setting alight the house of the alleged rapist.

Kwazulu-Natal police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said the 68-year-old woman was asleep in her house in the

Snathing area on Friday afternoon when she was attacked and raped. When her son heard about the incident he went in search of the alleged rapist and set his house alight.

The alleged rapist was not at home at the time. He was arrested in the New Hanover area in the early hours of Sunday and will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
