A new video in the case of Mahikeng ANC councillor Gaasite Legalatladi, who allegedly plotted to kill North West premier Supra Mahumapelo, has led to the postponement of the case to next year.

The state brought the mystery video to the Lehurutshe Magistrate's Court, claiming the recording contained evidence of how Legalatladi had planned to kill Mahuma-pelo.

The case was postponed after the defence protested that they did not know about the video.

Legalatladi's lawyer, Butch Schoeman, said he was not ready to proceed with the trial as he had received evidence that would be used in the proceedings, including the video, only yesterday morning.

Schoeman said he and Legalatladi needed first to familiarise themselves with the video. .

"I cannot disclose the contents of the video. But after looking at the video, I saw there was another person making another video recording," he said.

Legalatladi, 43, is facing a charge of conspiracy to murder after she allegedly consulted with a traditional healer at Mmasebudule village near Zeerust in December last year.

She had allegedly visited the healer to seek muthi, or a magical charm, to kill Mahumapelo and Mahikeng mayor Gosiame Seatlholo with. State advocate Sello Maemo said three cellphones were also part of the evidence.

Mahumapelo, who is one of the witnesses in the case, told Sowetan at the court yesterday that he was willing to forgive Legalatladi should she apologise.

"I was shocked after viewing the video," he said.

"I was supposed to be killed on (that) Wednesday, but by the grace of God I am still alive."

Mahumapelo said he had participated in grooming Legalatladi and her political career over 15 years.

"We've been working together, but people change. It does not mean if you are a priest and develop a congregation and groom them, they will not sin and plot against you one day."

Legalatladi and Mahumapelo come from the same ANC branch (ward 12) in Mahikeng.

Legalatladi was a member of ANC Youth League and Women's League. It is alleged she was naked when the Hawks arrested her at the healer's place in the early hours of December 4 2014.

It is also alleged she was captured on video performing rituals.

Hawks spokesman Paul Ramaloko said Legalatladi wanted Mahumapelo dead as he had allegedly took over a farm belonging to her family.

She allegedly also wanted to kill Seatlholo for taking over the position of mayor. Her R3000 bail was extended until her next court appearance on February 4 next year.
