Fight breaks out at Elsenburg College in Stellenbosch (VIDEO)

On Tuesday videos emerged of a fight between students from the Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute in Stellenbosch.

The videos show some black students carrying sjamboks, one is dressed in a red overall, getting into fight with another group of mainly white students. Some of the bystanders managed to film the incident.

Students had been protesting the college’s language policy. The protest started yesterday, Monday 31st of August.

It has been confirmed that one student was hurt in the fight.

One of the bystanders alluded that the protesting students were from the EFF.

''This morning higher-certificate students locked a lecture hall for a test,'' a student told News24. ''Management asked them to open it and got their own bolt cutters and managed to cut the chain off the gate.

''But as they started opening the door, there was resistance from the EFF [Economic Freedom Fighters]. A fight broke out and the okes started hitting each other with sjamboks,'' the student said.

The language policies of Stellenbosch University have come under scrutiny after a documentary titled Luister was made public.

The documentary detailed black students plight at the University, as they faced racism and an unfair language policy.

Elsenburg falls under the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, and it’s degree courses are supported by the University of Stellenbosch.
