Radio presenter arrested for making threats of sexual assault

In a crime-busting first for Port Elizabeth‚ a well-known Kingfisher FM presenter is facing a charge of sexual assault for allegedly stalking a 22-year-old woman and repeatedly threatening over the phone to sexually assault her.

He was arrested at the radio station’s offices on Tuesday.

The presenter‚ who was arrested at about 12.15pm‚ was taken into custody at the station’s premises at the King’s Court complex in Buffelsfontein Road by undercover police officers posing as centre customers.

It marks the first prosecution of its kind in the city where no physical contact or assault had yet taken place against the victim.

Authorities remained tight-lipped about the arrest but confirmed that the Family Violence‚ Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit of the police was leading the investigation.

The presenter is being charged under Section 5(2) of the Sexual Offences Act‚ which states: “A person (‘A’) who unlawfully and intentionally inspires the belief in a complainant (‘B’) that B will be sexually violated‚ is guilty of the offence of sexual assault.”
