Twitter battalion comes down on Unathi Msengana

Radio and Television personality Unathi Msengana has been under fire on Twitter for her Stellenbosch University comments.

Msengana faced the Twitter wrath after commenting on the 'Luister' documentary that shows how black students at the university feel excluded over language barriers.

The video portrays how black students, with no Afrikaans background, are taught in Afrikaans.

The university has translations services available, in the form of headsets with a translator whispering in your ear what the Afrikaans lecturer is saying in English, for students who cannot understand Afrikaans.

Msengana said that she does not see any problem with the university offering lectures in Afrikaans as the varsity stated on their website that they are 'multilingual'.

According to The Times an industrial engineering students, Anelisiwe Mdube, called into Msengana's to share her experience of studying at the university.

Mdube stated that although the university claims to be multilingual, most lectures are still conducted only in Afrikaans.

Msengana, according to The Times, told Mdube that the black students knew when they applied and got accepted at Stellenbosch that the university lectures are in Afrikaans.

This did not sit well with the Twitter battalion.
