DJ Donald blames booze for memory loss

Murder accused DJ Donald “DJ Donald Duck” Sebolai has blamed his forgetfulness regarding the incident that killed his girlfriend on alcohol.

Sebolai‚ 38‚ formerly employed by Jozi FM‚ on Monday told the Johannesburg High Court‚ sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court southeast of Johannesburg‚ that he cannot remember details of the incident in which his girlfriend was killed.

Seolai allegedly stabbed his girlfriend Rachel Flavia “Dolly” Tshabalala‚ 32‚ to death after the couple had a fight at his Soweto flat on June 29‚ last year.

Sebolai has pleaded not guilty. He claims that Tshabalala had attacked him with a steak knife‚ and that he had acted in self-defence.

Testifying‚ the DJ said that he could not remember how many times Tshabalala attempted to stab him.

He had testified earlier that she had tried to stab him three times‚ but said later that she had tried to stab him twice.

During cross-examination prosecutor Elize Le Roux questioned Sebolai on the two versions‚ to which he replied:

“I’m trying very hard to remember how many times she tried to stab me. We were drunk.”

Sebolai then told the court that he would need about 20 minutes to come up with an answer.

The court heard earlier that Tshabalala died of excessive blood loss. She had been stabbed once in her lower abdomen. The wound extended to the root of her right thigh and severed an artery.

The trial continues.
