An East London man allegedly raped his 85-year-old mother on Sunday morning.

The incident happened in Ncera Village 2 near Kidd’s Beach‚ about 15km outside East London.

It is alleged that the suspect‚ 58‚ was drunk when he arrived at his mother’s home early on Sunday morning.

East London police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala confirmed the incident.

“Police are investigating the matter but we do not have more details for now‚” said Mqala.

The victim is expected to be taken to a doctor for medical examination on Monday.

The victim’s granddaughter‚ 24‚ told the Dispatch that the family was devastated as they didn’t expect such a crime to be committed by a family member.

“I never expected one of us to do this. We are shocked as the family‚” she said.
