Denosa wants tough action against nurses’ alleged attacker

The Gauteng branch of the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) on Friday welcomed the arrest of the “violent people” who are alleged to have attacked two female nurses.

And‚ Denosa wants the department of health to keep its nose out of the matter.

Denosa said the act was perpetrated at “Tembisa hospital by male relatives of a patient who was admitted at the facility” and called for tough action against them.

“We…call on the law enforcement agencies to lock these dangerous people away. We are sick and tired of people who think they can just do as they please in hospitals and community health centres‚” a Denosa statement said.

“It cannot be correct that our health workers must continue working under dangerous conditions.

“We call on the department of health not to interfere with the process of the law in anyway‚ as the matter is now with the police and must be closed at that level.”

The statement added that the nurses have been booked off for four days‚ “thereby depriving community members at the facility of nurses who should be taking care of the vulnerable and sick patients”.
