Manhunt for suspects who fatally shot cop at Crossing Mall

At 7:30 Wednesday morning a 36-year –old police officer was fatally shot at Crossing Mall in Vosloorus

The officer was shot in the upper body; his colleague who was with him was not injured but is highly traumatised and was taken to the local hospital.

A manhunt has been launched for a group of about six suspects who fled the scene with two vehicles, a silver Nissan Tiida and white Audi A4. The Nissan Tiida was found abandoned at Vosloorus Ext 2. 

Police are simultaneously still looking at the CCTV footage to identify the killers,the South African Police service stated in a series of tweets.

The police officers came across the suspects during their routine sector patrol. The suspects opened fire on the officers, who then fired back. A few suspects came from behind the officers also opened fire on them. They then fled the scene, the Arrive Alive blog reported.

The suspect had allegedly robbed a shop and taken several goods including laptops and computers.

The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Lesetja Mothiba, called upon communities to help police in their efforts in dealing with criminals who kill police members.

In a separate incident police officer was stabbed to death on the N2 in the Western Cape. The 50-year-old officer who was in an unmarked car and in plain clothes was robbed and then stabbed to death by two suspects. The officer had stopped to change a flat tyre.
