Cope: ‘Lord bless the Arch with abundant health’

The Congress of the People (Cope) on Wednesday urged “everyone in South Africa to pray for our beloved Anglican Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu so that he can‚ as quickly as possible‚ find relief and good health again”.

Tutu was re-admitted to a hospital in Cape Town and will remain in hospital until the weekend‚ his daughter‚ the Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu said on Tuesday.

Rev Tutu said the hospitalisation was unrelated to his cancer treatment. His oncologist confirmed that his PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) level was pleasingly low.

He was discharged from hospital last Tuesday‚ and re-admitted on Tuesday afternoon after expressing renewed discomfort.

“His doctors considered it prudent for him to return to hospital for observation.

“He’ll have a few days of bed-rest while his medical dream team brings the situation under control and determines the next course of action‚ if any.

“He will stay in hospital until the weekend‚ at least‚” she said.

Cope president Mosiuoa Lekota echoed the hope for a swift discharge‚ saying: “His re-admission to hospital‚ a week after his doctors discharged him‚ we pray is a temporary setback.

“We pray that bed-rest and the dedicated medical care he receives will restore him to good health again. We are delighted to hear that his oncologist is happy with his progress in respect of prostrate cancer.

“Lord bless the Arch with abundant health and a long life. We have great need of him still.”
