e-Libraries programme launched in SA

The Department of Basic Education together with Nelson Mandela Foundation have launched an e-Library programme across 61 resource centres in South Africa.

Together with Vodacom and Huawei  the department created the programme as an educational content application designed to help advance literacy development which is one of the most critical elements in the country’s education value chain.

Huawei sponsored 400 tablets which have been loaded with an exciting collection of e-book content and include a variety of genres including:  African literature, history, business/entrepreneurship and fiction.

The programme is available in all eleven official languages and accessible by publishing partners Via Afrika, Oxford University Press, Shuter & Shooter, FunDza and is complemented with content from the Department of Basic Education and the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
