SABC has not received court order from the fired 16 Generations cast

SABC has confirmed that they have not received any court order from the 16 fired Generations actors almost a year since rumours of a court action emerged.

16 main cast members of the most watched soapie were fired from the show following a wage dispute In August last year.

The national broadcaster’s spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago has revealed that they have not been served with any court order.

“Remember the court order is not against the SABC because we are just a correspondent .

“They were not SABC employees but MMSV employees. So we will just hear what needs to be done by us,” said Kganyago.

Generations had to be taken off air for the first time in over 15 years in December after running out of recorded shows due to the strike and was replaced by Skeem Saam which did very well.

A revamped Generations: The Legacy was then introduced to the 8pm slot loyal fans but it has not been very well.

Kganyago confirmed that their new series Uzalo viewership has eclipsed that of Generations: The Legacy but said they were not concerned.

“We are happy, all of them belong to the SABC, why would we have an issue? The main thing is to get more viewership so there is nothing wrong.

“They are not competing because they are on different slots and Generations (The Legacy) is still number one on its slot,” explained Kganyago.

The 16 cast members have threatened that one of their demands in the court order is to have the new Generations taken off air but Kganyago said he does not know the merits of the case.

“I don’t know if it’s possible to stop Generations: The Legacy from airing and I will not comment on that since we have not received anything.

“Everything I hear or know is what I read on papers. They have been saying ‘we will take them to court next week and when next week comes, there’s nothing,” said Kganyago.

Sophie Ndaba, one of the fired 16 has since pulled out from the legal battle according to Sunday World because she believes the Generations they are fighting for is long gone and a new one has been introduced.

"I didn't see the reason to continue fighting because he had introduced a new thing all together. We were fighting for the exploitation of actors in the original show called Generations.

"I don't regret doing so, but now he has introduced a new thing to which I don't belong. So what would be the reason to continue fighting?," Ndaba was quoted in the Sunday paper.
